MLB set to open up ‘a la carte’ offering for streaming service

Major League Baseball is poised to grant fans the ability to purchase single-team, out-of-market packages for its streaming service on the MLB.tv platform, according to multiple reports.

US baseball fans have previously been restricted to purchasing an entire out-of-market package featuring games from all 30 teams.

However, a court filing in the Garber v. Office of the Commissioner of Baseball lawsuit obtained by the FanGraphs website, stated that “beginning next season (2016) MLB will make single-team, out-of-market streams available for purchase (alongside the out-of-market package) on MLB.tv”.

Forbes magazine added that sources at Major League Baseball would not comment on the details in the filing, stating only that any news regarding new product offerings for the upcoming season would begin being released in February.

Last season, a subscription to the streaming service cost $130 (€120) for all 30 teams, or $25 per month.
