Motors TV chief clarifies channel’s future

Jean-Luc Roy, founder of Motors TV, has said it will be “business as usual with benefits” for the pan-European motorsports channel after its recent acquisition by automotive digital technology business Motorsport Network.

Upon completion of the deal earlier this month, it was suggested that Motors TV could drop its linear channels and become a solely OTT operation.

It has already been announced that Motors TV will become the backbone of Motorsport.tv, a performance motoring and motorsport OTT video broadcast network.

However, although Roy said a new OTT platform will launch early next year, the Motors TV linear channels will remain. According to various reports, Roy said: “Our linear output is the heart of our business and will remain so, all that will change is that we will upscale to HD in early 2017.

“The great news is that we will continue the 16-year tradition of linear broadcasting into the future, but the benefit of new ownership is that we have investment to scale our operation to full HD and also offer existing – as well as new – audiences the opportunity to view our content in both traditional and on-demand ways, the best of both worlds.”
