MP & Silva scores Bundesliga rights extension in Japan

The MP & Silva agency has extended a deal to continue distributing rights to the Bundesliga, the top division of German football, to broadcasters in Japan.

The new deal will run for three years, from the 2015-16 season through to 2017-18. MP & Silva is the current Bundesliga rights holder in Japan for the cycle from 2012-13 to 2014-15.

The agreement covers all league and relegation play-off matches, as well as the Supercup competition and highlights from every round of the Bundesliga.

MP & Silva will distribute rights across all broadcast, mobile and online platforms.

MP & Silva acquired the rights from the Fox International Channels broadcast subsidiary of media company 21st Century Fox, under a sublicensing deal approved by DFL Sports Enterprises, the commercial arm of the German Football League.

The popularity of the Bundesliga in Japan is expected to continue growing with a record high 13 players currently competing in the league, including Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa and Shinji Okazaki of Mainz 05.
