MTG retains NFL rights in Nordics

Multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group has extended a rights deal with the NFL American football league in the Nordic region.

The five-year agreement will run through to the NFL’s end-of-season Super Bowl in 2022.

MTG will broadcast a range of regular-season games, as well as play-off matches and Super Bowls on its television channels and on the Viaplay video-streaming service.

Coverage will be available in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

MTG will also serve as the NFL’s Nordic media partner for the league’s NFL Network channel, which will be made available to fans across the region. NFL Network broadcasts year-round programming of the league, including coverage of training camps and pre-season, the NFL Draft and Scouting Combine.

Michael Markovich, vice-president of international media and business development at the NFL, said: “NFL fans in the Nordics are digitally savvy and well connected, so naturally will look to access our content across multiple devices, and between MTG’s broad range of platforms, including traditional TV, satellite and video streaming services, and NFL’s Game Pass offering, we are ensuring Nordic fans can get closer to the NFL than ever before.”
