MTG secures rights to Nordic-hosted 2020 European Handball Championships

Multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group has acquired exclusive rights in the Nordic region to the 2020 European Handball Championships.

The agreement covers both the men’s event, which will be hosted by Sweden, Austria and Norway, and the women’s tournament, which will be staged in Denmark and Norway.

Under the agreement, the events will be shown in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland on free-to-air television and on Viasat, the MTG-run pay-television operator. Coverage will also be shown on the Viaplay streaming service.

Matches involving the Nordic teams, as well as the semi-finals and final, will be shown on MTG’s free-to-air channels in the respective countries. Coverage will also include local commentary, studio interviews, feature programming and highlights.

MTG holds rights in Sweden and Norway to this year’s women’s European Handball Championship, which is ongoing in Sweden. MTG will also broadcast the 2018 event, which will be held in France.
