News UK targets ITV’s FA Cup digital rights

Newspaper group News UK, publisher of The Sun, is in negotiations with UK commercial broadcaster ITV to purchase the digital rights to the 2013-14 FA Cup football competition, according to The Guardian newspaper.

Coverage of the tournament would be added to Sun Plus, the publication’s new online video service that launched last week.

ITV currently holds the digital rights to this year’s FA Cup. Talks between the two parties are understood to be at an early stage.

News UK has already purchased digital FA Cup rights for four years from the 2014-15 season. The service will include the provision of goal clips to online and mobile users immediately after they have been scored.

In January, News UK announced it had secured rights to show Premier League clips as part of a three-year deal spanning the 2013-14 to 2015-16 campaigns.
