NHL Network pens USA Hockey extension

Pay-television broadcaster NHL Network has extended a rights partnership with USA Hockey.

Under the deal, NHL Network will have exclusive rights in the US to a number of major International Ice Hockey Federation tournaments through to 2021.

The agreement covers the World Junior Championship, Women’s World Hockey Championship and the U-18 Men’s World Championship.

NHL Network, which operates as a joint venture between the North American NHL ice hockey league and US media company NBCUniversal, will provide complete coverage of each competition, including game broadcasts, previews, highlights and analysis.

The deal also includes NHL Network’s live coverage of four US women’s national team exhibition games against Canada, the first of which takes place on October 22. The contests are part of the team’s preparations for the 2018 winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
