Nova granted licence for second sports channel

Czech commercial and pay-television broadcaster Nova has been granted a licence to launch a second sports channel in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Parabola.cz website said Nova’s operator, CET 21, has secured a licence from Czech media regulator the Council of Radio and TV Broadcasting (RRTV) for a channel named Nova Sport 2.

The licence is valid for 12 years and covers the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It allows the service to broadcast in the former country via satellite television and over the internet. RRTV’s Slovak counterpart RVR has granted permission for the channel to operate in Slovakia under a Czech licence.

Nova currently operates the Nova Sport premium channel, which is set to be rebranded as Nova Sport 1 and has also been granted a 12-year licence to broadcast via the internet in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
