NRK pick up Women’s Euro 2021 in Norway

Norwegian public-service broadcaster NRK has acquired rights to the Uefa Women’s European Championship in 2021 along with all Norwegian national team qualifying matches to the tournament.

The public-service broadcaster’s coverage of the Norwegian team’s Euro 2021 qualifying began on Friday with a 6-0 victory against Northern Ireland.

NRK has also picked up the rights to the Norwegian national teams friendly match against Euro 2021 hosts England on September 3.

The new deal follows NRK’s coverage of this year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup, where viewership numbers in Norway increased by 20 per cent compared the 2015 edition, which saw the national team reached the quarter final stage. NRK shared rights to the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup with Norwegian commercial and pay-television broadcaster TV2.

NRK’s coverage Norway’s qualifying match against Belarus in October will be non-exclusive, as Nordic Entertainment (Nent) Group announced last week that it had also acquired rights for this match, along with a host of top-tier European women’s football rights.

Both NRK and TV2 held broadcast rights in Norway to the women’s Euro 2017.
