Oliveira set to agree to share Portuguese Liga rights

Portuguese businessman Joaquim Oliveira is set to transfer the rights for the Portuguese Liga, the top division of football in the country, from his Olivedesportos agency to pay-television broadcaster Sport TV, which he co-owns with media company Zon Multimedia.

According to the website El Económico, Oliveira will agree for the rights to be shared under a deal that would allow telecommunications company Portugal Telecom to acquire a stake in Sport TV. Portugal Telecom, by acquiring a stake in Sport TV, will become part-owner of the rights along with Zon and Oliveira.

Under the current arrangement, Olivedesportos sells on the all club rights to Sport TV. Portuguese clubs sell their media rights individually.

The Negocios website said that the parameters of the proposed new agreement had not been decided, with financial services company KPMG having been brought in to advise on the process, but added that the deal should be completed by the end of the year.
