Philippot secures third term at helm of EBU

Jean-Paul Philippot has secured a two-year term as president of the European Broadcasting Union, the consortium of free-to-air broadcasters, at the union’s general assembly yesterday in Strasbourg, France. It will be Philippot’s third term at the helm of the EBU.

Claudio Cappon, from Italian commercial broadcaster RAI, was also elected to serve a second two-year term as vice-president of the EBU.

The EBU said the support for Philippot and Cappon was unanimous.

Themis Themistocleous, from Cypriot public-service broadcaster CYBC, was elected to fill a vacant role on the EBU executive board for the remainder of 2012.

An election to decide the members of the executive board for the next two-year term, from 2013 to 2014, will take place later this year at the union’s winter general assembly on December 6-7 in Geneva, Switzerland.
