Piracy fears lead to Polish broadcaster scaling back Premier League coverage

Polish pay-television broadcaster NC Plus did not show any English Premier League matches on Saturday afternoon at 4pm local time for the second weekend in a row due to fears over piracy in the UK.

The broadcaster said that games had been showed illegally in bars in the UK by using NC Plus decoders.

The Satkurier news website said that there is no indication of how long it will refuse to show Saturday afternoon matches.

“Recently in the UK there have been cases of illegal broadcasting of the English league matches in pubs and other public places using NC Plus decoders,” Canal Plus Sport said. “As a result of these actions we do not have permission to transmit coverage on Canal Plus of matches being played on Saturdays at 4pm. We regret that the wrongful act of a small number of people outside Poland led to an undeserved punishment for real football fans. We would like to assure everyone that the total number of matches broadcast live across the season will remain unchanged and we will take any action to resolve this unexpected situation.”
