RDA and IEC seek to boost global reach of World Club 7s

The RDA Television and IEC in Sports agencies have secured an initial one-year deal to jointly market the global broadcast rights, excluding the UK, for the World Club 7s rugby union competition.

Premiership Rugby, the organiser of World Club 7s and English club rugby’s top-tier Premiership, has awarded the contract for the 2014 tournament taking place at London’s Twickenham stadium on August 16-17, with an option to extend longer term.

Launched in 2013, the World Club 7s was broadcast in 117 territories globally, with RDA Television and IEC in Sports given the remit of extending this reach.

UK pay-television broadcaster BT Sport is host broadcaster of the event and will be producing around 10 hours of live coverage from the 2014 World Club 7’s.

Premiership Rugby has already confirmed four of the 12 teams in this year's World Club 7s, with Auckland, NSW Waratahs, the Blue Bulls and Buenos Aires competing at Twickenham. They will be joined by teams from the English Premiership, the US and the southern hemisphere.
