Real Madrid enters running for DTT licence – report

Spanish Liga football club Real Madrid has submitted a proposal to make its official television channel, Real Madrid TV, available on digital-terrestrial television in the country, according to the PRNoticias.com website.

It was initially reported last month that six companies had submitted bids for the six new DTT licences, three in HD and three in SD. The initial bidders were said to be Atresmedia, Mediaset, Prisa, 13 TV, Secuoya and Net TV.

Real Madrid’s interest makes it seven parties in contention for the licences. PRNoticias said tenders will be assessed this week, with a decision on the licences expected by October at the latest.

Real Madrid TV is currently only available via pay-television platforms in Spain and the club has long been keen to increase its reach by securing a free-to-air platform for its broadcast.

Following the closure of nine channels, Spanish viewers can currently watch 15 national DTT channels.
