Romtelecom secures Liga 1 coverage through Intel deal

Romanian cable-television operator Romtelecom has sealed a carriage deal for coverage of the domestic football Liga 1 tournament, according to the ZF newspaper.

Romtelecom agreed the deal with media company Intel Sky Broadcasting, which has the rights for five years, from 2014-15 to 2018-19.

The length and value of the deal was not disclosed.

Under the deal, Intel’s Look Plus channel, which shows four of the nine matches from each round of the league, will be available through Romtelecom’s Dolce TV service at no extra cost.

The Look TV channel, which shows five of the nine matches every round, will be available as an add-on to the service for a fee of €1.7 ($2.3) per month for a minimum of three months.

The deal was agreed one week after the same newspaper claimed that Romtelecom had broken off talks with Intel after failing to agree a carriage fee.
