SBS maintains live Premier League coverage

Australian public-service broadcaster SBS has confirmed it will continue its live coverage of club football competition the English Premier League.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but SBS said it will maintain coverage of one live match a week, kicking off with Newcastle United taking on Tottenham Hotspur on August 11.

All of SBS’ Premier League matches during the 2018-19 season will also be live-streamed via The World Game app.

In May, telco Optus renewed an agreement for rights to the Premier League. The new three-season agreement covers the 2019-20 to 2021-22 seasons, with Optus Sport to provide exclusive live coverage of every Premier League match. The deal also includes full on-demand, replay and short-form rights for all matches.

For the prior rights cycle, Optus and SBS held an agreement whereby the public-service broadcaster had access to one live match per week.
