Seven holes World Cup of Golf rights

Australian commercial broadcaster Seven has acquired rights to the World Cup of Golf, which will take place in the country this November.

Seven’s package includes free-to-air, pay-television, online, mobile and social media rights in Australia.

The World Cup of Golf will take place at Melbourne’s Kingston Heath Golf Club from November 24-27. Australia’s Jason Day and Adam Scott are the defending team champions having claimed victory at the 2013 event, which was also staged in Melbourne.

Day (pictured) also won the individual title three years ago, although event organisers have confirmed the format will be scrapped this year, with the focus instead being on the team pursuit.

Seven also holds rights to the Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship events, which will sandwich this year’s World Cup of Golf.

Seven West Media chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette said: “The World Cup of Golf is a strategic acquisition to further bolster our sports and our multiple-screen delivery of sports and premium content. This tournament will bring the world's best players together with world class innovation to deliver a targeted and highly sought after audience for advertisers.”
