The French competition authority, the Autorité de la Concurrence, has found that the proposed merger between free-to-air commercial broadcasters M6 and TF1 raises a number of “significant” competition concerns, especially in relation to the advertising market.
The authority’s investigation teams have issued their report on the proposed merger, plans for which were first unveiled in May last year. M6 and TF1 said at the time that the merger would seek to “master the challenges arising from the accelerating competition with global platforms”.
