Sky News Arabia acquires Premier League clips for sports bulletins

Sky News Arabia, a new 24-hour news channel in the Middle East, has purchased rights to show clips of English Premier League football matches within its sports news bulletins.

Sky News Arabia agreed the deal with media company Abu Dhabi Media, the league’s exclusive rights-holder in the region.

The clips can be shown by the channel from two hours after the conclusion of each match. The channel can also broadcast real-time footage from the football stadia before and after matches and at half-time.

All of the clips will also be available on the Sky News Arabia website.

“Sport – and football in particular – is huge in the Arab world, so it was crucial for Sky News Arabia to have a strong line-up,” Nart Bouran, head of Sky News Arabia, said. “With the sports team in place, with the Premier League agreement and with the ability to broadcast on multiple platforms from day-one I can confidently say that we have an unparalleled offering that I’m sure our viewers will enjoy.”

Sky News Arabia launched on Sunday, May 6, as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corporation and UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB.
