Pay-television broadcaster Sky New Zealand has continued its rights acquisition drive by agreeing a deal for the new ATP Cup national team tournament.
Sky’s three-year contract will take in the inaugural edition of the tournament in Australia on January 3-12, extending through to the 2022 competition.
The ATP Cup is a 24-country team event developed by the men’s ATP Tour and Tennis Australia. It is destined to launch the ATP season ahead of grand slam event the Australian Open. Matches will be played across Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.
The inaugural ATP Cup will be broadcast in Australia by commercial broadcaster Nine.
In March, ATP Media issued an international media-rights tender for the tournament.
Sky has been busy in the rights market in recent months. In December alone, it has extended its contract for coverage of LPGA golf events from 2020 to 2024, agreed a long-term deal with New Zealand Rugby League focusing on the women’s game and signed a landmark rights agreement with the domestic National Basketball League.
