Sky picks up rights to new gymnastics event

UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has acquired rights to the 2017 World Cup of Gymnastics event, which will take place at London’s O2 Arena.

Sky secured the rights through an agreement with sports promoter Matchroom Sport and the British Gymnastics governing body. The event will be held on April 8 next year.

The event will feature a men’s and women’s competition, with Sky Sports to air live coverage throughout the day.

The World Cup of Gymnastics is a new event formed by Matchroom Sport and was officially unveiled this (Monday) morning. The event will form part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s (FIG) 2017 individual all-round World Cup Series.

Great Britain’s gymnastics team picked up a record-breaking seven medals at the Rio 2016 summer Olympic Games.
