Sky replaces BT Sport as Euroleague’s UK rights-holder

UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has acquired rights for the Euroleague Basketball club tournament.

The length of the deal was not disclosed, but the Euroleague said that Sky would show “regular weekly games.”

Sky replaces pay-television rival BT Sport as the Euroleague’s domestic rights-holder in the UK.

Sky will show some of the games via its Sky Sports Mix channel, which is available for free to Sky subscribers who do not have a sports package subscription.

In other news, more than 50 per cent of Sky’s independent shareholders have voted against James Murdoch’s reappointment as chairman. Murdoch is returning to the company following a four-year hiatus.

Sky said that although it noted the “significant vote” against Murdoch, his appointment had been unanimously approved by Sky’s board.
