Sky strikes Sochi 2014 deal with TIM

Pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia has signed a deal with Telecom Italia for Sky’s dedicated Sochi 2014 winter Olympics channels to be carried by the telecommunications company’s TIM broadband and ultra-broadband networks.

TIM customers who purchase Sky’s ‘Ticket Big Events’ package will be able to access top sports events from their smartphone or tablet, live and on demand, starting with the Olympics in February.

The two companies said that the Sochi deal had been struck with a view to offering other major Sky-owned sporting events of “national interest”.

As part of the partnership, Sky and TIM have also signed a letter of intent to examine the feasibility of a next-generation IPTV platform over which the entire Sky offering may be distributed.
