Sky to set first with Women’s Super League Grand Final coverage

UK pay-television broadcaster Sky Sports has announced plans to deliver live coverage of this year’s Women’s Super League Grand Final, marking the first time a match from the rugby league competition will be televised.

The October 11 match will also mark Sky’s first live broadcast of a domestic women’s rugby league fixture. The match is due to take place at St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium (pictured), a day before the men’s Grand Final at Old Trafford in Manchester.

The semi-finals of the Women’s Super League will take place on October 6. Wigan beat Leeds in last year’s Grand Final.

Next month’s match will continue Sky’s summer of women’s sport coverage, with the broadcaster having shown the Netball World Cup, The Ashes and the Solheim Cup in recent months.

The deal with Sky provides a further boost to the Women’s Super League, which last month secured its first title partner in the shape of UK bookmaker Betfred. The company already title sponsored the men’s competition and the women’s deal will run alongside this agreement until the end of the 2021 season.
