Sony acquires rights for real and virtual X1 Racing League

Sony Pictures Networks has acquired media rights in the Indian subcontinent for the country’s new X1 Racing League motorsports series, and its sister esports competition X1 Racing eSports.

Sony’s deal is for three years, beginning with the inaugural 2019 series starting on November 30, and was agreed with promoter Racing Promotions Private Limited. It will show all the races on its sports television channels and its SonyLIV OTT service. Coverage of X1 Racing eSports, the first season of which concluded yesterday, is on SonyLIV. There will be more than 50 hours of content from the two competitions each season.

The inaugural X1 Racing eSports season began on October 7 and finished yesterday, November 17. It was held across six cities – Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi.

The inaugural X1 Racing League is taking place in Delhi and Chennai over two weekends – November 30-December 1, and December 7-8.

The X1 Racing League was founded by Indian drivers Aditya Patel and Armaan Ebrahim. Like many new Indian sports events in recent years, it has franchise teams representing different cities. It is sanctioned by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.
