Sony set to bid to retain IPL rights

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), formerly known as Multi Screen Media, will bid to retain rights for the Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket competition when the Board of Control for Cricket in India auctions the rights for 2018 and beyond.

Sony has rights for the event through to the end of the 2017 edition.

“It is clearly a property we have nurtured and built from scratch,” Prasana Krishnan, executive vice-president and business head of Channel Six and Sony ESPN, told the Live Mint website. “It is something which we are extremely passionate about. There is no denying the fact that we would want to continue to be the broadcaster for IPL.”

The Television Post website said that the auction for the rights is likely to start at the end of May.
