Sony Six adds South Africa’s T20 Challenge to sports roster

Indian sports and entertainment pay-television channel Sony Six has acquired broadcasting rights in the Indian sub-continent to the 2014-15 edition of South Africa’s domestic T20 Challenge cricket tournament.

The T20 Challenge is preparing for its second season that will run from November 2 until its scheduled December 12 final. Sony Six has struck the deal with the Twenty20 tournament’s governing body, Cricket South Africa.

Business head of Sony Six, Prasana Krishnan, said: ‘‘This exciting property adds a bold and new dimension to our existing array of sports properties. With the acquisition of the rights, we truly believe we are heading in the right direction in establishing our foothold in providing entertaining sporting content, which is what today’s viewers across demographics are truly looking for.”

International cricketers including West Indies stars Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy are signed up to take part in the T20 Challenge, with South Africa’s international players poised to take part in the latter stages after their limited-overs tour of Australia ends on November 23.
