Spanish basketball federation agrees deal with TVE

Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE has agreed an exclusive rights deal with the Federación Española de Baloncesto, the Spanish basketball federation, beginning this year and running into 2014.

TVE will show live coverage of eight of the Spanish men’s national team warm-up matches for this summer’s London Olympics and between seven and nine of their qualification matches for the 2013 European Championships in Slovenia. It will also show eight matches from the women’s national side’s qualification campaign for the 2013 women’s European Championships in France.

The package includes rights to a number of domestic club competitions in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. TVE will show one match per week each from the Liga Adecco Oro, the men’s second-tier league, and the Liga Feminina, the women’s league. TVE will also show the final of men’s cup competition the Copa del Principe, and the semi-finals and finals of women’s cup competition the Copa del Reina.

TVE will also show the finals of the Spanish Minibasket, Cadet and Child competitions in 2013 and 2014.

The broadcaster has also agreed to support and promote other federation tournaments and activities, including youth competitions, aimed at developing the sport in Spain.
