Spanish Liga game is first 3D broadcast in Colombia

Pay-television broadcaster DirecTV’s live coverage of the Spanish Liga football match between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Saturday, April 21, marked the first ever 3D broadcast in Colombia.

DirecTV Colombia president Roque Lombardo told Colombian newspaper El País that the broadcaster, which showed the game on channel 1030, would also broadcast the final of the Uefa Euro 2012 national team competition in 3D on July 1. A music concert will be shown in 3D next month.

“We believe the technology is ripe for the challenge,” Lombardo said. “We will have a regular service with two events per month [in 3D] including sports, movies and music.”

He added: “We are working on sports in 3D as the prices of the cameras [to show the coverage] have dropped.”
