Sport 24 lands NHL, World Cup of Hockey rights

The Sport 24 in-flight and in-ship channel has acquired rights to North American ice hockey league the NHL and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey national team tournament, which begins on Saturday.

Every match from the World Cup of Hockey will be shown live either on the Sport 24 channel or Sport 24 Extra, which launched in June. The tournament concludes on October 2.

The channels will also broadcast three games per week from the NHL once the 2016-17 season gets underway on October 12. Sport 24 will cover each game from the season-ending Stanley Cup playoffs and the 2017 Stanley Cup final.

Sport 24 is owned and operated by the IMG agency. Richard Wise, senior vice-president at IMG Media, said: “The addition of Sport 24 Extra this summer will allow us to show more live coverage of both competitions than we would have been able to previously.”
