Sport1 acquires NBA rights in Germany

German sports broadcaster Sport1 has signed a two-year deal for the exclusive media rights to US basketball league the National Basketball Association for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

Pay-television channel Sport1+ will show two live games per week, along with the NBA Finals and weekly highlights programme NBA Action.

The live games will be broadcast on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday evenings. Sport1+ will also televise two games per week from the NBA’s first two playoff rounds and selected matches from the Conference Finals. The NBA All-Star Saturday Night Game and NBA All-Star Game within the NBA All-Star series, along with the NBA Europe Live pre-season games, will complete the line-up of NBA programming on Sport1+.

Free-to-air channel Sport1 will broadcast NBA highlights, which will also be streamed via the Sport1.de website and mobile app.

Olaf Schröder, editor in chief and programme director of Sport1, said: “With the NBA we have acquired one of the world’s most attractive sporting rights exclusively for the German TV market and therefore expanded the quality programming portfolio of Sport1+.”
