Dutch pay-television channel Sport1 has acquired rights for the Women’s Tennis Association’s Premier Tournaments in a four-year deal, from 2013 to 2016, with the IEC in Sports agency.
Sport1 will show live coverage from 22 tournaments per year, highlights and a weekly WTA magazine programme. The deal includes mobile and internet rights.
IEC is distributing the WTA’s global television rights under a deal with digital media company Perform, which has a deal with the association for its global cross-platform media rights in the 2013 to 2016 period.
The latest deal extends Sport1’s tennis coverage, which currently includes men’s ATP 1000, 500 and 250 tournaments.
