Sport1 strikes EA Sports deal

German sports broadcaster Sport1 has agreed a deal with video game developer EA Sports to stream live coverage of the Fifa 17 Ultimate Team Championship Series esports competition.

Sport1 will stream live coverage of the finale of the tournament on the Sport1.de website, as well as via its channel on video-sharing website YouTube and its official page on social media platform Facebook.

In addition, Sport1 will broadcast highlights of the competition on its free-to-air television channels.

The Fifa 17 Ultimate Team Championship Series features players from around the world competing against each other on EA Sports video game title, Fifa 17.

Sport1 recently streamed live coverage of the Virtuellen Bundesliga, the official esports competition of the German Football League. The contest is also played on the Fifa 17 platform.

Cihan Yasarlar, representing German Bundesliga football club Schalke, won the Virtuellen Bundesliga and will compete in the final of the Fifa 17 Ultimate Team Championship Series.

Ivo Hrstic, director digital at Sport1, said: “The comprehensive live coverage of the season finale of the Virtual Bundesliga was a total success – reaching over 12 million users via our social media channels alone.”
