Sportsnet renews rights for Rogers Cup

Canadian pay-television broadcaster Rogers Sportsnet has renewed a broadcast and multimedia rights deal for the Rogers Cup tennis tournament.

The renewed agreement will run for five years, from 2016 through to 2020.

Sportsnet will broadcast coverage of all rounds of the Rogers Cup, including the semi-finals and finals. Under its existing deal, Sportsnet only held rights to the early rounds.

The deal will cover rights across television, online and mobile platforms.

The renewal also includes a sublicensing agreement with French-language Canadian pay-television network TVA Sports.

The Rogers Cup encompasses the men’s ATP Masters 1000 and women’s WTA Premier 5 events alternating annually between Toronto and Montreal. In 2015, the men’s event will be staged at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal from August 7 to 16, while the women’s event will take place at Rexall Centre in Toronto from August 8 to 16. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Agnieszka Radwanska (pictured) are the reigning singles champions.

Rogers Sportsnet is owned by Canadian telecommunications company Rogers Communications, which serves as the title sponsor of the event.
