SuperSport adds WTA to tennis rights portfolio

SuperSport, the sub-Saharan African pay-television broadcaster, has acquired rights to events organised by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

The agreement begins this weekend with coverage of the Italian Open, which will feature defending champion Karolina Pliskova (pictured) among other top 10 stars such as Simona Halep.

The deal covers the 50 countries which SuperSport serves, with coverage to be shown on the new SuperSport Tennis channel.

The deal strengthens SuperSport’s tennis rights portfolio, which also includes the Australian Open and French Open grand slams.

SuperSport also covered the inaugural edition of the Laver Cup team event in 2017.
