SuperSport picks up Uefa national team rights

SuperSport, the pay-television broadcaster that operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has acquired rights to a number of national team football properties held by European governing body Uefa.

The deal grants SuperSport rights to qualifiers for the Uefa Euro 2020 tournament and the event itself, which will be staged in 13 cities across Europe.

SuperSport will also show the European qualifiers for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, as well as the Nations League, a new tournament launched by Uefa that will begin in 2018.

The deal covers television, internet and mobile rights and guarantees SuperSport major European football coverage for each season from 2018 to 2022.

SuperSport will hold exclusive rights to the properties in South Africa, and non-exclusive rights in the rest of sub-Saharan Africa and the adjacent islands.
