SuperSport snaps up rights for new hockey league

SuperSport, the pay-television broadcaster that operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has acquired rights for South Africa’s new Premier Hockey League.

The exclusive deal will run for five years, from 2016 to 2020.

SuperSport struck the deal with the South African Hockey Association, which will launch the inaugural edition of the tournament tomorrow (Saturday) with the opening round of fixtures.

SuperSport will provide live coverage of 24 of the 40 games during the competition, including all semi-finals and both finals, across television, online and mobile platforms.

A further eight games will be streamed exclusively live via the SuperSport website and will be repeated, on a delayed basis, on selected SuperSport broadcast channels across sub-Saharan Africa.
