Taj renews deal for Indian ATP event

Indian subcontinent pay-television broadcaster Taj TV has renewed its rights for the Chennai Open men’s tennis tournament to cover the 2012-13 edition.

Taj will exploit the rights on its Ten Sports channel, according to the Indian Television website. The 18th edition of the competition will run from December 31 to January 6.

Taj struck the deal with IMG Reliance, a joint venture between the IMG agency and Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries. IMG-Reliance organises the tournament, which is currently the only event that takes place in India on the calendar of the ATP World Tour, the top-tier men’s tennis professional tennis tour.

“Tennis has a huge fan following across the region and our association with the Chennai Open will give a fantastic opportunity to millions of tennis fans to experience thrilling tennis action from the comfort of their homes,” Ten Sports chief executive Atul Pande said.
