Taj sets fee and target for new golf channel

Indian pay-television broadcaster Taj Television launched its new Ten Golf channel in India on Thursday, March 16, with a subscription price of Rs200 (€3/$4) per month. The company is targeting 500,000 customers within three years.

“We have priced the channel at Rs200 and are only offering it as a standalone channel,” Taj Television chief executive Atul Pande told the IndianTelevision website.

“India as a sporting nation is fast transforming from a single sport to a multi-sport nation,” he said. “As one of India’s leading sports broadcasters, we understand that the sports consumption pattern of the Indian viewer raises the need for specialised, differentiated sport channels and this is what we hope to deliver to our revered golf viewers.”

The channel is available on the Dish TV satellite-television platform and from cable-television company Hathway Cable & Datacom. Two more carriage deals should be agreed by the end of March. Pande said that Taj would also look for international distribution of the channel.

Taj now has four channels, with the others being Ten Sports, cricket-dedicated Ten Cricket and football-dedicated Ten Action Plus.
