Televisa agrees EHF Euros rights deal

Televisa Networks, a subsidiary of Mexican media group Grupo Televisa, has acquired media rights to the European Handball Federation’s European Championship national team competition in all Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.

The deal, brokered by the EHF’s media and marketing partner, Infront Sports & Media, will cover the men’s and women’s EHF Euro 2014 and 2016 tournaments.

The agreement covers Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Mexico on an exclusive basis, as well as Aruba, Barbados, Curacao, Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago on a non-exclusive basis.

Live and delayed coverage, repeats and highlights will be shown on the Televisa Deportes Network multimedia platform. Televisa also has sublicensing rights.

A minimum of 10 games will be shown from each championship, including three preliminary round games, three main round matches, both semi-finals and the final.

The men’s and women’s EHF Euro 2014 will take place in Denmark from January 12-26 and in Hungary and Croatia from December 7-21, respectively. The EHF Euro 2016 men’s and women’s events are scheduled to take place in Poland from January 17-31 and in Sweden from December 4-18, respectively.
