TF1-M6 merger called off after regulator demands

French free-to-air commercial broadcasters TF1 and M6, along with their respective parent companies, conglomerate Bouygues and media group RTL Group, have ended a proposed merger operation after declaring that conditions for the deal being sought by regulators would have left the project without any “industrial logic”.

The merger had been scheduled for completion by the end of this year but the French competition authority, L’Autorité de la concurrence, opened a review into the agreement back in March.
