TF1 strikes late deal to cover Gasquet’s Wimbledon semi-final

French commercial broadcaster TF1 has agreed a late sublicensing deal with pay-television broadcaster beIN Media Group to broadcast the semi-final clash between Richard Gasquet and Novak Djokovic at the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

The match between France’s Gasquet and Serbia’s Djokovic commences today (Friday) at 2pm French time. TF1 will broadcast the match via its TMC channel.

The agreement has come despite the tennis grand slam not featuring on France’s list of sporting events which must receive free-to-air coverage. TF1 could seek to extend the arrangement should Gasquet progress to Sunday’s final.

BeIN secured the exclusive rights in France for Wimbledon and the men’s ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and 500 series, along with the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals under a deal struck in November 2013.

The deal runs for five years, from 2014 to 2018.
