Thai pay-TV operators in Liga rights talks

Thai pay-television operator RS is in negotiations to sublicense Spanish top-tier Liga football rights to pay-television rival Cable Thai Holdings (CTH), according to the Bangkok Post newspaper.

Wanchai Srisuchon, chief financial officer of CTH, said that the company would be able to exploit the rights on one of its high-definition channels.

“We have enough capacity to serve more than 100 HD channels on our platform, as HD will be a key part of our strategy to attract customers to the premium segment,” he said.

The report said that RS is planning to generate additional income from the rights by launching a new pay-television service on its Sun Box platform in August. Sun Box customers currently watch Liga games for free, but from next season will have to pay Bt100 (€2.53/$3.35) per month.
