TVE, Sky pick up rights to Qatar handball showpiece

Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE and UK pay-television broadcaster Sky have acquired rights for the 2015 men’s World Handball Championships in Qatar.

The deals were struck with beIN Media Group, the pay-television broadcaster that is distributing rights for the event.

TVE will exploit the rights on its sports channel Teledeporte and the La 1 channel, with Spain hoping to defend the title it won at home in 2013.

Sky will show live television coverage of one game per day between midday and 18.00pm, with the other contests being shown via the Sky Sports red button digital service.

The tournament will run from January 15 and February 1.
