TVP expands ice hockey portfolio with NHL, World Cup rights

Polish public-service broadcaster TVP has acquired rights for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, an international ice hockey tournament, as well as the NHL North American ice hockey league.

The NHL deal will run for four seasons, from 2016-17 to 2019-20.

TVP will show three games per week via its sports channel and website. The deal includes coverage of the All-Star Game, Winter Classic and Centennial Classic.

The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will take place in the Canadian city of Toronto from September 17 to October 1 and is being co-organised by the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association.

TVP has shown coverage of the Polish Hockey League for the last 10 years and, since last year, the European Champions Hockey League.
