Twitter to live stream League of Legends Sydney event

Social media company Twitter has reached an agreement with video games developer Riot Games Oceania to stream live coverage of the upcoming League of Legends: League of Origin esports event.

Twitter will stream coverage of the event, which takes place in Sydney on June 3-4, on a global basis. Coverage will be available via Leagueoflegends.twitter.com.

The tournament will feature players representing the Australian states of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, as well as New Zealand. Gamers have been picked from the Oceanic Pro League and Oceanic Challenger Series.

Twitter will also launch tournament-specific emojis for the event itself and the four representative teams.

“Esports is growing at a rapid pace in Australia and globally, and this collaboration is a great way to tap into the engaged audience of gamers that are already using Twitter as a primary source of content,” Olly Wilton, head of sports at Twitter Australia, said.

The event will take place at the Sydney studio of esports organisation ESL.
