UFC makes inroads into Asian market with Indonesian deal

Ultimate Fighting Championship, the mixed martial arts promoter, is set to confirm a new rights deal with Indonesian media group MNC.

The agreement, part of a broader commercial partnership, is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, according to the Fightline website.

“It’s going to bring us on terrestrial television and on their MNC Sports cable stations across the world’s fourth-most populous country,” Mark Fischer, UFC executive vice-president and managing director of UFC Asia, said. “So we’re really excited about that for our future in this great potential market.”

Rudy Tanoesoedibjo, chief executive of MNC’s pay-television provider SkyVision, added: “Indonesia is the third country in Asia after Japan and China to bring the UFC, and we’re going to be organising fights in Indonesia. I believe with us as the fourth most populous country in the world, this can be a very big event in our country.”

The deal will mark a further move into the Asian market for the championship, which staged its first event in Macau on November 10.
