The Swiss Competition Commission (Weko) has fined telco UPC around CHF30m ($33m/€27.9m) for anti-competitive practices regarding its domestic broadcast distribution of Switzerland’s top ice hockey league.
UPC acquired rights in Switzerland to the domestic top-tier ice hockey league, from 2017-18 to 2021-22, in 2016 and up until this year did not offer any content, via carriage or sublicensing deals, to rival telco Swisscom, the previous rights-holder.
