WDR approves World Cup rights deal in Germany

German regional public-service broadcaster WDR has given its approval to the acquisition of 2022 Fifa World Cup national football team media rights by national public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF.

WDR’s approval follows that of fellow regional public-service broadcaster NDR, which is also a part of ARD.

WDR said that it was important that the broadcasters show information about working conditions in Qatar, which will host the World Cup.

The rights deal was announced in June.
