World Kabaddi League scores rights deals

Organisers of the new World Kabaddi League competition have secured broadcast rights deals in India, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

The Indiantelevision.com website said Indian sports and entertainment pay-television channel Sony Six has acquired rights in the country to the WKL, which is set to launch on August 9.

Pakistani pay-television broadcaster Geo TV has acquired rights, while the WKL will also be broadcast in Dubai and the UAE after media company ARY TV acquired rights in the region.

The WKL aims to boost kabaddi on a global basis by professionalising the sport. Organisers intend the franchise-based league to operate across 15 cities in six countries.
